Your Tesla Tesla's official WLTP figure for a rear-wheel-drive Model Y is about 12 to 13 kWh per 100 km. Real Irish driving, especially in winter, usually uses more, so 16 is a cautious starting point. The rest is charged at Superchargers or other public chargers. Cheapest EV rate with VAT included that we checked on 3 October 2026: Bord Gáis Energy Urban EV Smart at 10.57c per kWh. Compare every EV rate. Tesla owners pay about 47c per kWh at Irish Superchargers, checked by hand on 15 September 2026. ESB ecars fast chargers cost €0.72 per kWh pay as you go. Compare public charging. SEAI home charger grant

Up to €300 towards buying and installing a home charger, for private homes with off-street parking. Home charging checklist

VRT relief

Up to €5,000 for eligible electric cars until the end of 2026. It is already reflected in the VRT built into Irish new-car prices, so don't count it twice.

Company car BIK

In 2026, €30,000 comes off an electric company car's original market value for BIK: €10,000 for all cars plus €20,000 for electric. That falls to €15,000 in 2027.

How the maths works

Energy used is your yearly kilometres multiplied by kWh per 100 km. Charging cost splits that energy between your home rate and the public rate. Petrol cost is your yearly kilometres multiplied by litres per 100 km and the petrol price. The saving adds the difference in motor tax, using €120 for the Tesla. Referral kilometres are valued at the public rate, because they replace Supercharging you would otherwise pay for.
